Can you use AVR as preamp?
Can you use AVR as preamp?
Basically, by using the preamp outputs on a receiver, you are transforming your AVR into an A/V preamp-processor, nothing more, nothing less. Some AVR manufacturers — Denon, for instance — address this via a setting that disconnects the receiver’s internal amp channels when the preamp outputs are used.
How do you use a pre out on a receiver?
How to Connect a Power Amp to an AV Receiver
- Find the power source for all pieces of equipment.
- Purchase all the necessary equipment (trigger wire, RCA cable, speaker wire)
- Run a trigger wire from the Power Amp to the AV Receiver.
- Use an RCA cable to connect the AV receiver’s pre-out to the power amplifier’s jack.
What is pre out on AVR?
A pre-out allows you to connect an external power amplifier instead of using the amp that’s built into the receiver. It allows a signal to pass through the receiver without amplification, and to instead be amplified by another power source.
Can I connect subwoofer to pre out?
Pre-outs can be used with subwoofers that have their own internal amplifier. Connecting your powered subwoofers to a pre-out is very simple. To do this, simply use an RCA-type input jack to connect from your receiver to your subwoofer.
How many pre-outs do I need?
Each set of pre-outs is 2 channels, so you would need two SETS of preouts for that setup. If you throw a subwoofer in there, your looking at three sets of preouts (which most good HU’s will have).
Do I need a preamp if I have an amp?
No, a preamp can’t be used as an amp because they do different jobs. A preamp boosts weak signals to line level, whereas an amp boosts the line level so it can be heard through speakers. Although their jobs are similar, you couldn’t replace an amp with a preamp, or vice versa.
Can a Denon be used as a pre out output?
I could also use the “pre out” outputs of the Denon, however I would like the volume output from the Denon to have no control because I would like to control the volume directly on the headphone amplifier.
How does a Denon x3500h pre out work?
BT Youview, PS4, PSVR. Note that the receiver will output audio sourced via its optical and HDMI inputs via the Zone2 analogue outputs, but only if the source is 2 channel PCM in nature. You can however configure the receiver to convert multichannel sources to PCM for output via the Zone2 stereo speakers.
Do you need Dolby Surround on a Denon AV receiver?
Modes are a contentious subject and it is really a matter of personal preference as to whether or not you use them. Most will use them relative to stereo 2 channel TV content and will set the AV receiver to a mode such as Dolby Surround or Neural:X for such sources, but you’d not really need such upmixing if accessing Atmos or DTS:X encoded audio.
How does the AVR connect to the pre?
Just saw this and I think you guys don’t get the point. You connect the AVR front preouts to the ML preamp which then connects to the front amps. The amps in the AVR power the surrounds and center. You do this so you can go directly into the Levinson pre for better stereo music quality and not have to disconnect anything.
Are there any owners of the Denon avr-x3400h?
Are there any owners of the now $599 AVR-X3400H (since the X3500H’s out) who don’t find it sounding better than the one it replaced, all else being equal, i.e. no sound processing, same speakers same room same level etc.?

What kind of RCA cable does Denon Zone 2 use?
I tried to connect the DENON “zone 2” output with an analog RCA cable (white and red RCA) but in no way was I able to send the audio to the headphone amplifier. Where am I wrong?
