Is the Denon AVR always in standby mode?

(Quite freaky the first time it happened and I heard a child downstairs in the middle of the night!) The AVR is always in standby mode when we go to bed. The TV is an old Panasonic plasma but it’s turned off (not in standby).

They make terrific products but their manuals are written in some other language, they have a bad reputation in all circles regarding their manuals and menus, even the most experienced audio tech, dreads DENON, when a manufacturer ends up with an independent website trying to explain their controls, that is not a good sign.

Why does my Denon AVR not work on my TV?

If you have Dolby Digital set to ON on the cable box, but your TV cannot accept Dolby Digital audio (many cannot), there will be no audio passed to the TV, rather you would have to set Dolby Digital to OFF on the cable box. Yes…and no. The surround back speakers are for 7.1. For 5.1, though, you use the rear surround jacks. Well I changed it from Surround back to Surround Right. No audio still. It doesn’t seem right as well.
